Navy banned Facebook, also banned soldiers from using smartphones
New Delhi, ANI. The Indian Navy has banned the use of social media site Facebook by naval personnel. Apart from this, smartphones have also been banned at naval bases, dockyards and warships. This drastic step has been taken after seven marines were caught leaking sensitive information to enemy intelligence agencies on social media.
The Indian Navy has issued orders banning the use of the social media site Facebook. The order was issued on 27 December. The order from the Navy came after the arrest of 8 persons and seven naval personnel from Visakhapatnam and hawala operator from Mumbai on 20 December.
In addition to the ban on the use of Facebook, the use of smartphones has been banned in all locations within naval areas and even beyond ships. Messaging apps and social networking sites have also been banned. The ban on Facebook is being seen as a ban on all other Facebook-owned sites. Let me tell you, WhatsApp and Instagram are Facebook owned companies.
